Black Cherry trees grow fairly quickly at 2-3' per year with a max height of 60-80'. They are often found in upland dry areas. They prefer sand and loam soils that are well drained and moist. Avoid wet areas. This tree provides a food source for mammals and birds. The tree blooms small clusters of showy white flowers in the spring, followed by peas-sized fruits in late summer. The bark is dark and scaly.
