This hardwood tree grows anywhere from less than 1' to 2' per year, reaching a maximum height of 40’-60’and a spread of 40’-60’ at maturity. It grows in various soil types but prefers acidic, moist, but well drained areas. The nuts are valuable for both human and wildlife consumption. You will want to plant this tree in pairs or groups to ensure cross pollination, but keep in mind it can take 4-5 years after planting for the tree to bear nuts. Its beautiful round shape makes this a great shade tree to add to your landscape.
