This classic Michigan hardwood grows at a moderate to fast pace, between 12 and 24 inches per year. Favorable soils include sand, loam, or clay and are well drained. Red oak will thrive in acidic conditions such as near pine trees where needle drop incluences soils. Produces acorns in the fall and provides year round habitat for wildlife. This beautiful tree will add color, provide shade, and serve as a great addition to the landscape. Medium to dark green leaves turn a wonderful yellow to red in the fall season. Planting space of 15-20 feet is required for best growth.
