Tupilo, Black Gum

Size: 12-18" seedling

 

The Black Gum Tupilo has a medium growth rate at 12-24" per year, reaching a maximum height of 30-50' and a spread of 20-30'. It prefers soil conditions that are moist to well-drained and can tolerate sandy and loamy soils. The Tupilo brings many shades of yellow, orange, bright red, purple, and scarlet. They produce greenish-white flowers and a small bluish-black fruit that attracts wildlife. It grows in an oval shape.
