This hardwood grows at a fast pace of 12"-24” per year, reaching a maximum height of 40’-70’ and a spread of 40’-60’ at maturity. Suitable soil conditions vary from dry to moist and sand to clay, but prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It can tolerate moderately wet areas as well as some drought. River Birch provides food for small birds, habitat for wildlife, and shade from the sun. Leaves are green in spring and summer, turning yellow in the autumn; beautifying the landscape.
