Size: 3-4' seedling
The Northern Catalpa grows at a rate of 13-24" a year with a maximum height of 40-60' and a spread of 20-40'. A wide range of soil and moisture conditions can be tolerated but the tree may not prefore well if subjected to standing water. It is very adaptable to adverse conditions but may have weak wood or branch structure. The long seed pods and large leathery leaves can be challenging to pick up so this tree is often planted in the backdrop of the landscape. This tree does best when planted in the spring and should be pruned after one year of planting for good growth. Flowers attract insect pollinators.
