The Scarlet Oak has a moderate growth rate and can reach a height of 50'-80' with a spread of 40'-75' at maturity. The preferred soil conditions are acidic, moist, loamy, well-drained. This tree is highly drought tolerant. As the name suggests, this tree is well known for its beautiful red color seen in the fall, and it makes a great addition to large yards and parks. The acorns are prized by wildlife and humans alike while the rest of the tree also provides a home for migrant birds, butterflies and moths.
