This tropical looking tree grows 1'-2' per year reaching a max height of 15'-20' and a spread of 15'-20'. It prefers moist, well drained soils but can tolerate some poor drainage or occasional flooding. It produces cup shaped purple flowers from April to May, and an edible sweet fruit with a tropical taste. Multiple trees are needed for fruit production. It may take 4-8 years for fruit to produce, and the fruit will ripen in early fall.
Light Exposure: Partial Shade (4 hours of light daily)
This tree does not do well in full sun as it is typically found in the understory of wooded areas.
