This is a medium grower at 13-24” per year, up to a height of 20-30’ at maturity, with a spread of 25-35’. Redbud trees tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, including acidic, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, well-drained, and clay soils, but do not do well in overly wet areas. It produces pea-like pods, and purplish-pink flowers in April that attract butterflies and other nectar seeking insects. The new leaves are reddish in color, but turn vibrant green in summer and yellow in fall. This tree is typically planted both for its blossoms and as an ornamental tree due to its pleasing shape, with arching limbs and rounded crown.
