This understory shrub has a moderate growth rate at about 12" per year. At maturity, it will get 6'-9 tall with a spread of 5'-15'. It is adaptable to most soil conditions but prefers moist, loamy, well-drained soils. Juneberries flower in early spring which provides a decent head start for butterflies, moths and bees, while the fruit bears in summertime attracts over 30+ species of birds such as orioles and thrashers. The berries are sweet and have been likened to blueberries, and many people love them for use in pies and preserves. Fall time lights the bushes up in fiery orange and red.
