Size: 12"-18" seedling
This ornamental shrub is a species of Holly that is typically planted for its visual interest. It grows 12"-24" per year and reaches a max height of 18'-24'. It grows in wet areas and prefers rich, acidic soils. It produces striking pink-red fruit that opens up to bright orange seeds. This shrub provides a food source and cover for small mammals and birds. You can grow winterberry as either a small tree or a shrub depending on how you choose to prune it.

Only female plants produce fruit. You will need to have a male nearby for pollination.
Female plants have single flowers, or flowers in groups of 2 or 3. The flowers have a distinct green miniature knob in the center. Male plants have clusters of flowers, loaded with yellow anthers.
Not graded by sex prior to pick up.
